Occupy

I know this is OLD news, and I don't plan on getting political here. At least, not over this. I went out to shoot Occupy San Diego with NBC after some of the protesters were maced. Man, am I bummed I missed out on the chance at those shots....

Even though the San Diego movement is nothing compared to what I'm used to seeing in the bay area, things like this make me wonder what it felt like to be part of a time when protests actually meant something. No wonder my parents were hippies....

Four years

I can't believe it's been 4 years. I remember trying to decide if I should meet up with you like it was yesterday. One of the best decision I've ever made was to pass on sleeping for a fun night out that turned out to be a wonderful beginning. You've shown me how to relax, and live life without second guessing myself.

Over the last year we adjusted to life away from Minneapolis, had a blast in New York and visiting old friends, spent a lot of time playing in the snow, nerded out at Comicon, watched your brother and Holly tie the knot and moved to San Diego. You changed your major, and I started taking photos. Life is moving so fast, I definitely forget to tell you daily how wonderful you are. I'm so lucky to have you. You always keep my life interesting and encourage me to follow my dreams and take risks. I can't wait to see what this next year holds for us. The future is bright.

A sneak peek...

I've recently taken off on a new adventure. With no professional experience, a local online magazine has given me the opportunity to be a photojournalist! I'll be interviewing small businesses/restaurants all around the city (ahem, free food!!), as well as covering a variety of smaller community events to conventions. I'm so excited to have this opportunity, I can't even put it into words. I started interviewing businesses this week, so here's a peek at some of my photos from my first two articles (A nautical parts shop and a vintage scooter store). They're not edited yet, and I'm waiting a few weeks to purchase a good lens so bear with me. Not bad for a hobby I started 6 months ago though.

PS. LOVE this cat. Her name is Scootie, how cute is that??

Sidenote: This new position means I will be working 2 jobs for about 2 months (the photojournalist pay schedule is weird). Please forgive me if I am slow with blog posts. Ok, slower than I already am.

The wedding...

Is finally here! Holly and Jon (Chris's brother) are getting married tomorrow. I feel like their engagement was over so quickly, even though it's been 10 months.

I'm beyond excited to see this for real tomorrow! By the way, SO in love with her mom's shortened/tailored wedding dress.

Fun was had by all at the rehearsal, and the air was full of love and anticipation.

Heading home

This weekend I'm heading home! We haven't been back since moving in June, and I'm looking forward to seeing some family and friends I've been missing.

Plus.... Chris's older brother will be getting married this weekend!! So exciting that it's almost here!

Lately

This week (aside from working) I've been...

Unpacking (this is all that's left!! Whoo-hoo!!)

Painting,

Finally starting to see our garden grow. It's getting out of control...

Eating lots of easy greens,

watching a lot of baseball (still in 1st place!),

and spoiling Jack with almost daily dog park outings. If anyone was wondering how he's been adjusting, I think this photo sums it all up.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Random projects

With all the unpacking, I haven't had time to do anything DIY-wise yet. I have however, found some furniture pieces to add to the "fix me" list and some great ideas for our new place.I've begun love the idea of reusing a vintage steamer trunk as furniture. I'm on the hunt for a  perfect size trunk to repurpose as a coffee table. Excuse to market shop in Mexico next weekend? Maybe...

Why... Hello gorgeous.

On another note, I started stockpiling crown molding the other day. Can you say, faux fireplace? I know I'm pretty far behind on this trend, but I've never had a space able to accommodate one (we rent). Plus with all the moving we do, I could never justify taking on such a big project. And then I saw this on Design*Sponge:

I almost died! A bookshelf... Why didn't I think of that? The option to place and remove shelves is perfect for changing moods and seasons too. I'm sure it'll be quite a while before I get these projects rolling, but it's nice to see everything coming together.

Relocation nation

Surprise! (Well, not really...) We've moved!

We're officially in San Diego. I'll spare you the photos of our scary trailer, and numerous boxes/trash bags of stuff. My absence over the last week has been due to lack of planning, and lots of unpacking. I didn't get to bring any furniture (one bedside table doesn't count), so you'll be noticing a lot more DIY furniture revamping and decorating over the next few weeks. I can only hope this new chapter brings more laughs, love and adventures into our lives. I do know one thing, I'm not eager to make that drive with pets in my car again.
