Just found out, Tom's has a new line coming out in Spring 2012 (no news there). The news worthy part: the shoes are BALLET FLATS. Way to take the awesomeness and comfort of Tom's to a whole new level...

Berlap, linen, leather and suede?!? Sign me up...

I know this is OLD news, and I don't plan on getting political here. At least, not over this. I went out to shoot Occupy San Diego with NBC after some of the protesters were maced. Man, am I bummed I missed out on the chance at those shots....

Even though the San Diego movement is nothing compared to what I'm used to seeing in the bay area, things like this make me wonder what it felt like to be part of a time when protests actually meant something. No wonder my parents were hippies....

First Halloween in San Diego

We had a great time for our first real holiday in town. Apparently San Diego is the place to be for Halloween. Thousands upon thousands of people flock to downtown and take part in the "Monster Bash".

This is not what we did. As you can see by that crowd, going downtown and work at 6AM do not mix. So we headed out in our neighborhood. Definitely nice having a main drag within walking distance.

Classy, jello shots and pizza. Chris's concoction.

Remnants of pizza in the background, yep it's definitely our place.

Jack definitely doesn't trust Chris in that outfit...

Hope everyone had a great Halloween!

Four years

I can't believe it's been 4 years. I remember trying to decide if I should meet up with you like it was yesterday. One of the best decision I've ever made was to pass on sleeping for a fun night out that turned out to be a wonderful beginning. You've shown me how to relax, and live life without second guessing myself.

Over the last year we adjusted to life away from Minneapolis, had a blast in New York and visiting old friends, spent a lot of time playing in the snow, nerded out at Comicon, watched your brother and Holly tie the knot and moved to San Diego. You changed your major, and I started taking photos. Life is moving so fast, I definitely forget to tell you daily how wonderful you are. I'm so lucky to have you. You always keep my life interesting and encourage me to follow my dreams and take risks. I can't wait to see what this next year holds for us. The future is bright.

This weekend

Chris's parents came into town from the bay area. It was a quick visit, but we had a full weekend of fun. We explored USD, where Chris's dad started law school, went shopping, ate a LOT of food and toured around some of the neighborhoods here in San Diego.

I'm looking forward to many more of these family visits now that we're not in the Midwest. I got so sick of visiting with everyone twice a year! Now we just have to figure out the holidays...

Photo of the day

More like photos. Taken at Pine Tree Road Soap Shop during a Your Magazine interview.

It smelled so good I had to restrain myself from buying everything in the store.

My favorite shot of the day, during a Your Magazine interview at The Black Bead.

Who thought bones could be so pretty?

Singing in the rain

I was taking some photos in Balboa Park today with my friend Ted. It's not common for it to rain in San Diego, so we figured we'd take advantage of the opportunity.

I came home with my hair soaking wet, and devoured a hot chocolate. Such a fun day! Thanks for coming out Ted!

I am one lucky girl! Chris decided to surprise me with a new camera lens I had been lusting after for work (insert any other bad excuse here). My first non-kit lens! I put it on and snapped some quick shots tonight. Here are the first five shots I took. I skipped editing for now because they look so cool, I've never used a high-blur lens before! WARNING: This is a dog-heavy post. I have no other models in my house, Allie was not in the mood...

I can't wait to see how this will work out on the job tomorrow.

Can't wait to be king

We had been planning to see the Lion King since we saw the posters while seeing a movie about a month ago. As the time grew closer, we started a countdown. At least the new chalkboard is getting good use! (Chris looked at me like a crazy person when I hung it. He thought I just painted the center black for no reason!)

Yay for the Lion King, and bad movie theater photos! The best part? Everyone in the theater was in their 20s, and had seen it as kids in the theater.

It was so much fun laughing at things that flew over our heads so many years ago. Now I feel OLD!!

A sneak peek...

I've recently taken off on a new adventure. With no professional experience, a local online magazine has given me the opportunity to be a photojournalist! I'll be interviewing small businesses/restaurants all around the city (ahem, free food!!), as well as covering a variety of smaller community events to conventions. I'm so excited to have this opportunity, I can't even put it into words. I started interviewing businesses this week, so here's a peek at some of my photos from my first two articles (A nautical parts shop and a vintage scooter store). They're not edited yet, and I'm waiting a few weeks to purchase a good lens so bear with me. Not bad for a hobby I started 6 months ago though.

PS. LOVE this cat. Her name is Scootie, how cute is that??

Sidenote: This new position means I will be working 2 jobs for about 2 months (the photojournalist pay schedule is weird). Please forgive me if I am slow with blog posts. Ok, slower than I already am.
